Why rise on my thoughts, ye free songs of the land,
And her harp's melting tones tempt a fond minstrel's hand
He hush'd, be forgotten! for ne'er o'er the foam
Shall the minstrel with melody welcome me homel
No ! no ! let your echoes still float on the breeze,
And my heart shall be strong for the conquest of seas.

A name and a spirit that never shall die !

But my soul's quenchless fire, oh, my country ! is thine.
